Our Story

The Whole Bunch

Alan Bartlett and Sons couldn’t do what we do without the help of some talented and passionate people. Here are a few names and faces that keep us growing gorgeous produce.

Alan Bartlett

Alan started working for the family veg business at the tender age of 17. He came to Chatteris in the 80s with the idea of staying for a couple of weeks, but after seeing the potential, he stayed. Now, over 25 years later, he is still based at the factory taking a hands-on role in managing all aspects of the business. ab@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Toby Bartlett

Having joined in 2009, Toby decided early on that he would lend a helping hand to the commercial side of the business. Straight from school he spent time in the factory doing everything from washing and packing to driving forklifts. Today he spends his time with our customers, working on the marketing side of things and making sure we’ve got the business running smoothly. tb@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Oliver Bartlett

Toby’s twin brother, Ollie, also joined the business in 2009. After leaving school, he chose to get hands on at the farm. Starting off driving tractors, picking carrots and also practicing for his HGV test, he soon moved on to having a say in how we do things. Today Ollie helps to run the farm with Neil as well as working closely with Robin on the engineering side of things. ob@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Terry Hawthorn

Director

Terry is a crucial part of the Bartlett’s setup. He joined as operations manager in 1991 working on everything from production, packaging, buying, transport and sales. While he’s still a key part of any operational decision, Terry is now in the role of director and is the key contact for all our supermarket clients. There’s nothing Terry doesn’t know about the Bartlett’s business and the art of growing fine veg. th@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Andrew Foster

Finance Director

As a qualified Chartered Accountant, Andrew has always had a passion for business and finance. He joined us as Finance Director in 2012, bringing over 23 years of financial and commercial experience with him. Today Andrew is an integral member of the team, working closely with the Bartletts to secure the financial, operational and strategic direction of the business. af@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Michael Graves

Sales and Procurement

Michael handles all our non-supermarket customers. His family has been in the carrot business since the 1940s and he learnt an awful lot by spending school holidays hand-digging in the fields. All this experience helped him rise to chairman of the British Carrot Growers Association (among other accolades) and today he’s an integral part of what we do here at Alan Bartlett and Sons. mg@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Steve Warwick

Technical Manager

Steve took charge of our factory operation in 2005 as technical manager. He’s been in the fresh produce industry since leaving school, and his expertise covers retail, distribution, quality control and new product development (to name a few). He really knows his stuff. sw@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Shane Moulton

Warehouse and Distribution Manager

Shane has been with the Bartletts since 1993. There’s barely a job that he hasn’t turned his hand to – packing, stacking, loading, driving forklifts, supervising, and managing transport. He’s been our warehouse and distribution manager since 2009, helping to train others on 360° diggers and other crucial bits of machinery. sm@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Neil Coatsworth

Farm Manager

Neil comes from a farming family in the beautiful Lake District. After learning the basics and getting his agricultural qualifications, Neil moved to East Yorkshire to work as a fieldsman for Birds Eye where he was in charge of their critical harvest procedures. Neil joined us in 1995 and his knowledge has really helped to fuel the growth of the company. Today, as farm manager, Neil is the backbone of our farming team. nc@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Darren Barnett

Factory Manager

Darren has over 17 years’ experience of production management and engineering under his belt. He’s unflappable in the face of technical hitches and makes sure our factories run super-smoothly. He joined us in 2002 as production manager where he spent 5 years heading up the manufacturing side of things until we made him factory manager in 2007. db@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk

Robin Allebone

Engineering Manager

Robin learnt all the basics of engineering in his first job – repairing the different machinery at his uncle’s beetroot farm. After a brief stint as an HGV driver, Robin returned to maintenance engineering and joined us in 1994 as a farm fitter. We soon promoted Robin to engineering manager, where he now focuses on the preventative maintenance and repairs that are essential for keeping the business on track – both at the farm and the factory. ra@alanbartlettandsons.co.uk
